Jewellery Advice in Manchester

Jewellery advice in Manchester is only a phone call away

When buying diamond jewellery, of course it is important you like the design however, this is not the only thing to consider. More often than not you will need jewellery advice, in particular an impartial one. Click on the image below to find out more on how we can help.

Jewellery advice in Manchester that any buyer should look for will include information about the diamonds you purchase and their quality. That usually refers to their colour and clarity. If the diamonds are certified do not look only at the colour and clarity as there are many more aspects to consider. As all the information is stated on the certificate it would be a shame to ignore it. Just like you wouldn’t buy a PC just by the screen size and the colour of the tower, there are a lot more things to consider about the diamond.

One of the things you would want to know about a certified diamond is which laboratory the diamond was certified at.

Why is it important?

Some laboratories are stricter than others. For example, the EGL laboratory no longer can be found on the international platform for certified diamonds as it was found unreliable. In other words, it was upgrading the diamond’s quality on the certificate by more than two grades. So it is not enough to know the diamond is certified, it is also important to know by whom and what the certificate actually say about the diamond beyond the colour and clarity. Click on the image for more information on diamonds.

Depending on the diamond you are getting, which usually depends on your budget, you might want to consider what will be the best setting to enhance the beauty of the diamond. There are times you can compensate on the clarity of the diamond, especially when the flaw can be covered by the setting, and get a better colour of a diamond or larger carat weight.

What if you already possess a diamond item but no longer like it? Will it be tucked in a drawer not to ever be worn again? It could be an old ring that was passed on to you, a present you received a long time ago that no longer represent who you are or even something you bought yourself and are tired of its look.

This is when jewellery advice will be needed most. Many times you can redesign the old stones in a new mount or turn the jewellery into something else. An old ring can become a pendant or a beautiful set of earrings. You might want to add semi-precious stones to your new jewellery. It is important you are aware of the durability of that semi-precious stone, especially if set in a ring, as it tend to be knocked more often than earrings for example.

What about your choice of metal? Would you like to think of the long-term as well as what fashion or trends recommend? Are you suffering from allergies and want to take that into account when choosing your alloy?

At H&D Diamonds you can expect all that support either when purchasing a new item or when reviving an old jewellery piece. Having an online shop means we have no stock so all the jewellery advice we provide is completely impartial and you get exactly what you decide is best for you after the consultation.

Unique Engagement Ring in Manchester

Creating a unique engagement ring in Manchester

When it comes to my client’s unique engagement ring a quote from Margaret Mitchell, Gone with the Wind‘s author, comes to mind: “That is the one unforgivable sin in any society. Be different and be damned!”

Uni

Unique Diamond Jewellery

And why shouldn’t you?

You are an individual with your own appearance, taste and preferences. One person may like Rubies, another may prefer a Sapphire or maybe an Emerald, and that is perfectly fine. White gold, though very fashionable in recent years, doesn’t complement all skin tones and a large statement ring may not suit every women.

Your engagement ring should match your personality and style. It should be created uniquely for you. Only then will it be admired by you whilst attracting the attention it deserves from others.

How can you create a unique engagement ring?

Recently, one of my clients approached me regarding an engagement ring. It was a second marriage and a solitaire was not the preferred option.

As with many modern couples, my client was involved with the selection process, being the one who will be wearing the ring. After visiting jewellery shops she came back with a clear vision of what she doesn’t like.

Rule 1: Know what you do not like

Browsing with a close friend, having several heart to heart chats and bouncing ideas back and forth helped my client get a clearer picture of what she does like.

A while back I wrote about women’s choice and my client was a true example of a new trend of designer using gemstones in combination with diamonds.

Rule 2: Have a general idea of what you like to achieve

(a good friend by your side is always a bonus)

Next was the decision of which gemstone to choose. After consultations which informed her of the qualities of various gems my client decided that an aquamarine will accompany her diamonds.

Rule 3: Take an expert advice to create your unique engagement ring.

Once the finger was measured it was only a short while before the ring was ready for the proposal.

Now, the ring is worn with pride, my client loves her ring and is delighted with the admiring comments made by other people.

Would you like to design your own ring?

original-design-banner4

A diamond ring is not an everyday purchase and there is nothing wrong with being particular about this special acquisition.

You don’t have to be a jewellery designer in order to know your likes and dislikes. And this is already a great start to designing your own distinctive piece of jewellery.

I often meet discerning customers who, through extensive research, have selectively assembled several images of diamond rings . Each may reflect one aspect of their ideal ring – but not in its entirety. Every one of these customers wishes for a single diamond ring which would encompass all these unique qualities.

In many cases a ring can be found to meet all the requirements. However, there are times when the best option is to turn to a professional Bond Street jeweller for advice.

Let me share with you the story of a recent customer who opted for a bespoke diamond ring.

The journey began with a request for a Four Claws Emerald Cut Diamond Ring. I offered several design options however, after further research and many visits to jewellery shops my customer came back with a complete design swing. He decided to opt for a Round Brilliant Cut Diamond instead!

Purchasing the diamond was a journey in itself. My customer educated himself extensively regarding the most desirable qualities he sought in the ideal stone. He looked to me for guidance and valued my contributions which ensured that budget would in no way compromise quality.

A GIA Certified Diamond

Once the diamond was purchased we had to ensure that we obtained the exact mount he had in mind. That mount was created using the shank from one image and claws of another. My customer was very specific about his wishes, and this made the creation of the ring much easier for my jeweller. However, before the actual ring was produced I needed my customer’s approval on a 3D design showing what the ring will look like.

After the design was approved, or in my customer’s word: ‘I LOVE IT!’ my jeweller could start processing the work and the final ring is here for you to see.

Birthstone

Birthstone Monthly Attributes

Birthstone of the month is not a new invention. It was initially Josephus, a Jewish historian, who made a connection between the twelve stones of Aaron’s breastplate, the twelve tribes of Israel, the twelve months of the year and the twelve signs of the zodiac. There is a belief that each of the stones has healing powers that are at their peak when worn at the relevant month. To benefit from all of the attributes one should own all the stones. However, in modern days people usually wear their own birthstone.

January

The birthstone of January is the Garnet, a stone that was used for thousands of years. The name of the stone comes from the Latin word ‘granum’ which means ‘grain’ as the red round garnet looks very much like a pomegranate seed. It is considered to be the stone of true friendship and fidelity.

The garnet is commonly viewed in red but can also be found in different shades of green, yellow, blue and orange. Mystics say the garnet has purifying abilities on body and mind and can bring relationships to a higher, permanent level of devotion.

February

Amethyst, the birthstone of February, is a light pink to deep purple quartz. It is found mainly in Siberia, Sri Lanka and Brazil. Ideal grade will have primary purple hue. Ancient Egyptians used the Amethyst as a gemstone. The Greeks however, gave the stone qualities of preventing intoxication. Although used in medieval times by warriors to help heal wounds it is also believed to help peach of mind and clarity of thoughts.

March

Aquamarine is the birthstone of the month of March. This greenish blue stone has a glass-like lustre. The stone’s name is derived from the Latin Aquae meaning water and Marine meaning sea. Legends say this used to be the lucky stone of sailors for safe and prosperous travel.

April

The lucky April-born enjoys a diamond as a birthstone. This hardest gem represents love and is given as gifts couples throughout their relationship. From engagement, to wedding, anniversaries and celebrating birth. A true diamond lover does not have to stop at the colourless diamond, as fancy colour diamonds, known as colour diamonds, are also available. However, due to their rarity they are pricey.

May

The May birthstone, the Emerald, is from the same mineral as the Aquamarine, the beryl. Its name is originated from Greek and means green, as its colour. Emerald is thought to bring love, hope and wisdom to the person who wearing it.

June

Pearl is the birthstone of June. However, this is the only gem, which originated from a living seashell in its original shape. Pearls come in many different colours and are said to give the properties of loyalty, modesty and personal integrity. Pearls were known for their healing properties and used in medicine for centuries especially in traditional Asian medicine. On a different level, pearls were said to give their wearer a sense of calmness and to promote faith, loyalty and purity.

July

The July birthstone, the Ruby is varied in colour from pink to blood-red. It is the second most durable gemstone after the diamond and is ‘related’ to the Sapphire . Its price is determined firstly by the depth of its colour and secondly by its clarity. When wearing a ruby the owner’s mind will be free of doubts and anxiety about love and serenity will rule.

August

The light green Peridot birthstone of August has been mentioned in ancient Egyptian times. It was first discovered on the Egyptian island Zagbargad. In ancient times the Peridot was called ‘Topazios’, which was the Greek name for Zagbargad.

The peridot is said to increase confidence, assertiveness and clarity of thoughts and is known as the stone of prosperity and happiness.

 September

The birthstone of September, the Sapphire is a variation of the Ruby. It has a variety of delicate hues apart from the most associated blue colour. The Sapphire is said to bring loyalty, serenity, faith and wisdom.

October

Tourmaline is the colourful birthstone of October and may come in various shades. The watermelon tourmaline boasts three colours on one stone: green, red and white. The Romans believed it had the power of diffusing fear and melancholy emotions.

November

Citrine is the November quartz birthstone that can be found in different shades of yellow from very light to a brown cognac colour. It is very affordable and, in large sizes can make a big impression. This gemstone is said not only to bring the wearer good health but also prosperity in life.

 December

The Tanzanite birthstone is a beautiful gemstone that can display different colours depending on the direction from which it is viewed. The main three colours are blue, violet and pink-orange. It was discovered in the 1960’s in Tanzania, which is where it got its name.  It is said that the Tanzanite enhances composure and harmony.

All gems are beautiful and can be set with a halo of diamonds, two side diamonds or on their own. To schedule your free consultation with a diamond expert  and consider using gemstones please contact us on 0845 600 5557 .

How to Choose Your Perfect Engagement Ring

The perfect engagement ring

You found the right woman to propose to but you don’t know anything about diamonds, jewellery or both. How will you be able to choose the perfect engagement ring? Will your partner also think the ring is perfect? To make it easier for you here are three tips on how to purchase the perfect engagement ring:

Bespoke diamond jewellery, bespoke jewellery, bridal jewellery, caring for your jewellery, Cheshire jewellers, Cheshire jewellery, Christmas present, colour diamonds, diamond bracelet, diamond earrings, diamond engagement ring, diamond jewellery, diamond jewellery care, diamond necklace, diamond ring, diamond pendent, engagement rings, HTHP diamonds, online diamond jewellery, online shopping safety, stud diamonds earrings, The 4C’s, jewellery valuations, wedding bands, white gold wedding band, white gold wedding rings, yellow gold wedding rings, diamond set wedding rings, cheap diamond rings, Hagerty jewellery care, Hagerty jewellery wipes, Hagerty Jewellery Kit, Jewellery care, pearls, pearls jewellery, freshwater pearls, baroque pearls, freshwater pearl jewellery, baroque pearls jewellery, double row eternity ring to buy, where to buy diamond jewellery online, quality diamond jewellery Jewellery Manchester, Fine Jewellery, diamonds jewellery, jewellers in Manchester, Jewellery in Manchester, jewellers Manchester, jewellery Manchester, Manchester jewellers, handmade bespoke jewellery, designer jewellery, jewellery designer, jewelry, jewellery, online diamond, online diamonds, secure online shopping, diamond wedding ring, bridal set

1) Ideally you should know something about diamonds before purchasing one as this is not something you would buy on a daily basis and you will be spending quite a bit of  money. We are nearly there; I would recommend you also read the engagement ring guide before making any purchase. Now that you are ready, if you already know what your girlfriend wants or have a very good idea it is a simple process. Just call 0845 600 5557 where the mount and diamond can be easily sourced to your exact specification.

2) Budget can sometimes be an issue when buying diamond jewellery, especially for a young couple. There are several ways you can get more for your money such as shopping online but most important is the planning stage.

3) I am often approached by couples where the woman is very involved in choosing her ring, after all, she will be wearing it for the rest of her life. At other times the fiance to be had enough hints to know exactly what his girlfriend wants down to the ring size.  However, if you are the romantic type who likes to keep the moment as a special surprise, or simply don’t want to take the risk of getting it wrong you can buy a mock ring to propose with and choose with your girlfriend the permanent ring later on. You do not have to limit yourself to any stock and if your girlfriend is after a special piece a design of her choice can be created either by casting or hand made by a Bond Street jeweller.

I hope this helped you in preparing for your proposal day but if you need additional guidance please call 0845 600 5557 for  professional consultation.

Have you ever seen a jewellery piece on someone and didn’t know where you could get the same design?

The proposal is the moment many girls dream about; many women in long-term relationships look forward to; and so many men dread. What diamond ring should you buy? Bespoke Wedding Ring – The affordable way

Bespoke Wedding Ring  –  Why should you?

Diamond Ring

Diamond Ring

Bespoke wedding ring may seem unnecessary. Do you remember the moment he proposed to you with that unique ring?  Or do you remember when you chose for your loved one that adorable engagements ring that none of your friends seen before? It was a great feeling at the time.

Now your long relationship is about to turn official and you cannot find any wedding ring to fit precisely next to your gorgeous ring. What are you going to do? Surely you want your wedding ring to match that beautiful engagement ring of yours?

You could of course have a hand made bespoke wedding ring made to match to the engagement ring.  We work with a highly qualified Bond Street jeweller for customers with similar wishes. However, if this service is beyond what you were planning to spend help is at hand.

H & D diamonds are now offering an affordable bespoke service. The service includes 3D scanning of your engagement ring. From this scan a replica of your engagement ring will be created. From the replica a perfect individually shaped casting of the wedding ring will be produced. It is now ready for polishing and setting if your bespoke wedding ring includes diamonds.

How does it work?

You send us your engagement ring for the 3D scanning. The ring will be back with you in seven to ten working days, as it needs to be sent to the UK manufacturer. Using a CAD computer software allows you to see what your wedding ring would look like against your engagement ring. Once you approve of the bespoke wedding ring we will create it for you.

Will it be a bespoke wedding ring?

It will be a uniquely bespoke wedding ring matched to your engagement ring.

How come it is affordable?

Once you approve the design of your bespoke wedding ring  it will be cast. This will not be hand made and therefore you will pay  significantly less than you would have paid for a hand made bespoke wedding ring.

Women Choose Colour gems

Colour Gems, Diamonds and Women

Colour gems has recently hit the headlines: women choose to enhance their rings, pendants, earrings and necklaces with colour gems such as rubies, emeralds and sapphires!

How is this ‘news’?

In 1981 Princess Diana chose an elegant cluster ring after becoming engaged to Prince Charles – the same dazzling oval blue 18 carat sapphire and diamond ring William offered Kate whilst on holiday, in Kenya, in 2010.

In 2009 Penelope Cruz accepted her colour gems from Javier – a three carat Sapphire ring worth $30,000 ;

In the same year hockey player Mike Fisher co designed a yellow-and-white 12 carat diamond ring for Carrie Underwood worth about $800,000.

Russell Brand presented singer Kate Perry with a 5-carat pink diamond Cartier ring after only three months of dating. After this marriage failed she replaced it with a heart shaped ruby ring from John Mayer…….

So the fact that women like colour gems isn’t exactly news but it certainly gives us food for thought. Colour gems jewellery can be affordable than their pricier relatives – the diamonds, and are beautifully enhanced by them.

When men choose gemstones for their partners, they often go for diamonds,  but when women shop for themselves many prefer at least one of  the colour gems in a piece of jewellery.

Why? Well, some ‘have a thing about colour’ (like make-up?) whilst others take their budget into consideration. For many, even if they still want one diamond in anengagement ring, they also want a splash of colour. Women want to feel unique!

The problem with colour gems is that there is no grading. If you want top quality ruby or emerald – they will compete with diamonds at that level. So what are the options available to women of taste?

At H&D Diamonds we value colour and understand budget. We buy colour gems directly from dealers to the trade and can show you a variety of colour gems to choose from. However, we can also set you apart from high-street shoppers in our new selection of the forever elegant pearl earrings.

From the classic yet modern drop earrings with a black Tahitian pearl and diamonds to the elegantly curved diamond encrusted Tahitian pearl earring set – we offer colour, elegance and style.

Royalty and film stars have always been trend setters. Let me remind you of Anne Boleyn’s gorgeous long pearl necklace with its golden B and three dangling pearls; Elizabeth I who, on her coronation, wore a golden necklace with black and red diamonds and dangling teardrop pearls; Coco Chanel and her signature pearls, Princess Grace, Audrey Hepburn……. And You!

Rock Solid Diamonds – Sound Investment?

Diamonds For Sound Investment

If you are looking to combine sound investment with beauty and self-indulgence you may want to consider investment diamonds.  Mentioned also when I covered the subject of valuation this is one topic which is always pertinent.

Diamond trading is an unregulated market which can alienate the private investor. A world where even insiders often disagree on certain qualities and values, so what chance does an outsider stand? The reason for these discrepancies is concealed in part in the gem’s allurement – no two diamonds are exactly the same.

An expensive luxury, a symbol of love and eternity, the value of the best one-carat polished diamonds may have fallen somewhat in the last year but over the past decade has risen by an impressive 53 per cent!  They fascinate and intrigue us, their history captures our imagination:

  • The biggest diamond ever found was a 3,106.75-carat (621.35g) ‘Cullinan’ mined in South Africa in 1905. It was cut into seven major stones and 96 smaller ones. The largest stones were set into a Sceptre (530.2-carat) and the Imperial State Crown (317.4-carat) for the monarch King Edward VII.
  • Artist Damien Hirst made a ‘For the Love of God’ human skull platinum sculpture encrusted with 8,601 diamonds in 2007. It is valued at £50 million

  •  A rare pink diamond smashed the world record for a jewel sold at auction when it went for £29 million at Sotheby’s in November 2010. The 24.78-carat ‘Graff Pink’ was bought by British billionaire jeweler Laurence Graff

When buying a diamond, to ensure a sound investment, obtain a laboratory certificate. It is best to certify with internationally recognised laboratories.

How much do you spend?  One expert advice is to buy at least £5000 worth and keep them for five years. Please contact us on 0845 600 5557 for straight forward advice.

How do you ensure your investment’s security?  You may consider keeping your gems in pieces of jewellery which can be admired and enjoyed until it’s time to sell. Don’t forget to specify them on home and content insurance.

The Royal baby boy is a Ruby baby!

Congratulations! The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, gave birth this afternoon to a healthy Royal baby boy. The baby will officially be known as His Royal Highness Prince (name) of Cambridge.

The baby, that took his time in coming into the world, kept all astrologist very busy regarding the star sign he will be born into. In fact, its was a touch and go but the, that was born at 4:24pm is a cancer.

The birthstone of people who were born in the star sign of cancer is the Ruby.

Ruby is related to the sapphire and is a red corundum. The Ruby gets is name from ‘Ruber’ which is Latin for red. Rubies have been playing a major part in Royal insignia and other jewellery.

On her wedding day Kate Middleton’s “something borrowed” as the tradition goes was lent the Queen’s halo Cartier’s tiara whcich she kindly lent to Kate. However, being part of the crown jewels the tiara can only be lent to the Duchess. She also wore beautiful diamond earrings given to her by her parents.

Rumours says that Prince William got the green light to commission a new set of Royal jewellery for Kate’s birth. The jewellery will be used in special occasions.

The jewellery Kate is expected to get is a matching set of tiara, bracelet and earrings although a necklace and ring to match it all seems like a natural companion.

It would be interesting to see if the jewellery Kate willl receive will be of pure diamonds, a combination of diamonds and rubies, as the birthstone of the new baby, which is also a stunning and rare stone.

Parenthood is an important time for all couples but especially to the Royals that are running a very busy life with lots of commitments.

We would like to wish Kate Middleton and Prince Williams all the best that parenthood can offer in years to come.
