Gwyneth’s Engagement Proposal
Background to the Engagement Proposal
Gwyneth’s engagement ring was once her Granmother’s. It is an old style three diamond ring. You might say, well, a lot of girls get their engagement rings passed on to them and you might be right about that. However, reading Gwyneth’s story I sensed neither Gwyneth nor her Gran were what you’d consider as ordinary people.
Gwyneth’s Nain, the Welsh word for Gran, was living in a quiet seaside town in North Wales. She was probably a modest person who thought the ring is too ostentatious for a quiet seaside town , maybe she didn’t want to lose it or perhaps it was a dear memory to her. In any case, no one ever saw her wearing this beautiful ring. This is why it was a surprise to everyone when they found the ring, still in the box in Gwyneth’s Nain’s bedside table after she died. The ring was lovely and Gwyneth was given it to keep. She was wearing it on her right hand ever since.
Time went by and Gwyneth was in a serious relationship with Greame. May be it’s the sign of time and changes in the way things are done, or simply different personalities but one night over a few too many drinks Gwyneth and Greame made two important decisions that their experiences will be carried with them for the rest of their life. The first was to go to India, a decision that ended with them spending 16 months in South East Asia (I did say Gwyneth was not ordinary) and the second was to get married. There was no “going down on one knee” moment in this engagement proposal. The next day Gwyneth suggested she’s swap fingers and move the ring to the left hand.
You might say Greame got off lightly here as he didn’t need to spend money on an engagement ring. You can be assured that he made it up by buying Gwyneth lots of other diamond pieces later on in the relationship. He was simply sensitive enough to realise that no money would buy the same emotional experience and pride Gwyneth gets from wearing her Gran’s ring.
Gwyneth wears her ring regularly and not surprisingly gets comments on it regularly. Well actually, the only time she takes it off is when she is baking her beautiful vintage cakes and cupcakes for her vintage afternoon teas http://www.vintageafternoonteas.co.uk/.
To be on the safe side Gwyneth had her claws renewed for added safety and the ring is insured. She now also take better care for her diamond jewellery.
