High-street jeweller Versus Bond street jeweller

Bond street jewellers within your financial reach

When it comes to bespoke jewellery most people will go to the high street jeweller they know or been recommended.  It is very unlikely that they will seek a Bond street jeweller as Bond street resonate with high purchase.  This is the story of Sarah and her experience.

I met Sarah on a cold mid January morning at The Church Green, Lymm when she over heard I was a jeweller. She told me she is getting married in a few months and had a problem with getting her wedding ring done.

She already had an engagement ring that was set with diamonds in a ‘magic setting’ in the centre of the ring and side diamonds on the shoulders. ‘Magic setting’ is where several small diamonds give the impression of one large diamond. What she really wanted were two thin rings on either side of her engagement ring that will fit under the centre of her engagement ring.

Sarah’s engagement ring was not with her to show as she already gave it to a jeweller who was not showing a lot of progress with the design. The problem was that the centre of the engagement ring was very low and there was no room for the wedding band to go under it as Sarah wished it to be.

She then showed me pictures on her phone of what has been suggested to her by the high street jeweller, which was an open top ring.

Although not very clear this is the open top ring that was offered to Sarah.

But it just didn’t look right.

I took the ring to the Bond street jeweller I work with. He assessed the ring and very quickly came back with two statements. The first one was to say that the ring IS too low and therefore he understood why the high street jeweller had the idea of creating the open top ring. He then said that this open top ring would not pass the test of time as eventually the ring will open up at the top and will get wider.

He came back with a different idea whereby there will be two rings one on either side of the engagement ring that will match in the look and style soldered to the existing ring. This will prevent the rings from opening up and will create an illusion of two rings sliding under the centre of the engagement ring. He also created a little step between the engagement ring and the two side wedding bands to create the illusion they are two separate rings. This is what Sarah saw as an example of what her ring will look like;
