The birthstone of April is diamond and the most popular gift, probably because it is within budget, is stud diamond earrings. Normally when buying diamond jewellery I would advice to consider what is known as the 4C’s.
When it comes to diamond earrings the rules could change. Here are a three tips to maximize your gift:
The quality – When looking to buy diamond jewellery the colour and clarity of the diamond is greatly considered to maximize the beauty of the jewel. Diamond stud earrings are the type of jewellery that would be noticed when looking at the person wearing it but would rarely be closely examined, especially not with a magnifying glass. Thus, the clarity of the diamond could be compromised to either fit within your budget or to increase the diamond size. I would normally suggest SI clarity if budget is an obstacle. As for the colour, I would still opt for a nice colour and would recommend keeping within the range of G – H colour.
The mount – White gold is very fashionable however, some people’s skin tone and personal preferences would lean towards the yellow gold. When buying diamond jewellery it is important to stick to personal preferences. However, when it comes to stud diamond earrings I would always recommend using a white metal. It will simply give a lift to the brightness of the diamond. If the personal preferences are for yellow gold it is possible to have a mount made of yellow gold with white gold claws, which is an option I would strongly consider.
Your eyes – The cut of the diamond is what gives the diamond its brightness and brilliance. This is what catches people’s attention as the diamond reflects in the light. But how would you know if the cut is good? Very good? Ideal? The answer for that is that unless the diamond is certified you wouldn’t! Most stud diamond earrings are not certified to keep the costs down. But you do have your eyes to test this sparkle and rainbow like colour when holding the diamond earrings you are considering and see how well it reflects in the light. This should give you a good indication.
